Koke — Moss
32 m² · garden · 2 guests
A ground-floor room facing the moss garden, seen low, from the tatami.
from ¥42,000 / night

Higashiyama, Kyoto
Six rooms in a machiya townhouse. We think an empty hour is the greatest luxury.
We rebuilt a 120-year-old Kyoto townhouse by taking things away. What is left is light, shadow, and the sound of the garden.
Each of the six rooms has its own courtyard garden. Mornings begin with birdsong.

Every room opens onto its own garden. Slide the shōji, and the season comes in.

Morning and evening, and nothing between. The menu is decided by what the Kyoto market offers that day.
Six seats at the counter, so you can talk with the chef as you eat.

It was built to be heard as much as seen. On days of rain, and days of wind, the inn is a different place.
At dusk we light the paper lanterns.
