About Yamane

Nights with nothing but the sound of wood.

There is no television. In the evening people gather near the stove and keep quietly to themselves.

In the morning some go up the mountain and some don't. Either is fine.

Hearth

Around the irori.

Dinner is at the sunken hearth — river fish and mountain meat, grilled slowly.

Afterwards, the fire. We keep a small selection of local sake.

Rooms

Twelve rooms.

Solid timber throughout, with the three Hakuba peaks in the window.

Winter and summer.

Five minutes to the ski lifts in winter; in summer the trail starts behind the lodge.

There's a drying room for your gear, and a bath for when you come down.
